Why am I a Therapist?

I have come to learn that a tremendous amount of people feel alone, left out, unheard, irrelevant, tired, worthless, unconnected, unwelcomed, sad, anxious and fearful. They need someone to listen to them. They need someone to teach them they have value. They need skills to help them change their sadness and fear to happiness and courage.

I realised early on I had a knack for guiding people through darkness. I became a therapist because I am human and have fought my own battles, not always with ease but with hope and determination. It’s kind of like “giving back,” if you will. If I can help one client live with more authenticity and pride, my job is done.

I am a fully qualified Person Centered Counsellor, registered with The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and have experience of working with many different people.

Gerard has really helped me to overcome some great hurdles in my life with compassion and understanding. He has helped give me the tools I needed to continue to make progress after our sessions have ended. (Male Client - 22)

He has been very flexible with appointments and made everything suit my life. (Male Client - 30)

I've had weekly sessions with Gerard for the past 6 months and it is genuinely hard for me to put into words the significant positive change that I've experienced in my life throughout this period. He is a great listener and has always made me feel safe in our conversations, knowing that I wasn't being judged in any way for the external and internal conflicts that I've been facing. (Female Client - 43)

Together we have talked and dealt with it all in much depth, which has been invaluable in my progress to feeling better, more open, empowered and excited about my life. (Male Client - 19)

Gerard is great. Having gotten to know him over my first few sessions, I was immediately put at ease with the issues I had. Knowing I had someone to talk too, not only that had the expertise to help but was able to see and understand me. The ability to empathise with me not just sympathise due to similar experiences has been a great help. He's been attentive and caring from the start, willing to go down the directions I wanted to speak about. (Female Client - 38)

I only had a few sessions with Gerard so far but these have been extremely helpful, and I already feel hopeful and positive about the future and being able to solve my problems. He is warm and a fantastic listener, asks very good questions, and is able to 'connect the dots' between different sessions and issues which is so helpful. We came up with good conclusions and plans for me each time, and I feel much calmer. (Female Client - 40)

I've only had a couple of sessions and I was nervous as all hell at first. But he's got such a warm manner striking the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness that I was at ease within minutes of speaking to him the first time, and he's so supportive it's nice to have someone to talk to who actually listens and can offer insight. Based solely on my impression of him I've recommended Gerry to a few different people already. (Female Client - 24)
